How Did The Motocross Start

Since racing is considered a thrilling sport, motorcycle racing became part of the list but the racers are set to take their bikes on off-road tracks. Since these are made with dirt, it is often muddy which adds higher difficulty for the racers.

The sport started in America during the 1960s and has gained popularity since then. AMA started organizing the races and had its first championship in 1972. As the sport grew, the Japanese motorbike brands Suzuki and Kawasaki topped the most famous makers of dirt bikes. Indoor motocross also started in 1974 and had the first women’s championship in MX in 1995.

Many personalities started their athletic careers in this sport. Ricky Carmichael, Jessica Patterson, and Jeremy McGrath are to name a few.

Riders who want to join AMA championships are required to follow the AMA guide on dirt bikes to help different categories of racers find the equipment that is appropriate for them. Motocross can be a dangerous sport so following the safety precautions includes proper clothing, footwear, and wearing of body armor.
